Our Story

How it all started...

Grace Community Church is an independent, non-denominational group of Bible-believing followers of Jesus Christ. We are a church with an exciting and vibrant Children's and Youth ministry, as well as a very active adult ministry, from young singles to seniors. No matter where you are on your Journey with Jesus Christ, we have a place for you to grow.

The present-day Grace Community Church of Curllsville, Pennsylvania, first began as the German Reformed Congregation, originally formed in 1819. They had a German speaking pastor named Rev. Henry Koch, who traveled throughout the area as a circuit-riding pastor. The present building was erected in 1873.

In 1878, the church, then known as Grace Reformed Church, was joined with other congregations from Rimersburg, Squirrel Hill, and Widnoon. Name changes over the years have been German Reformed, Grace Evangelical and Reformed, and Grace United Church of Christ. The church has had thirty-five lead pastors in the 203 years of its existence.

Expanding the vision...

Today, the church is named Grace Community Church and is under the stewardship of Pastor Thomas Switzer.
Pastor Tom came to Grace as a Youth Pastor under Lead Pastor Daniel George in 2014. Upon Pastor Dan's retirement, Pastor Tom accepted the mantle of Lead Pastor in 2016. Today, Grace Community enjoys the blessings of shepherding from both Pastor Tom and part-time Associate Pastor Tim Shimmons, who was hired in 2021 to assist in ministering to our growing membership.

Where we are headed...
